LAOAG CITY – The Department of Finance–Bureau of Local Government Finance has recognized the local government of Currimao in Ilocos Norte as among top 10 performing local government units (LGUs) in the country.

This was after Currimao posted PHP40,233,926.94 in locally sourced revenue (LSR) in 2024, almost double the PHP20,328,319.40 LSR posted in 2023, according to local government data.

Currimao will receive the award on Nov. 5, 2025 at the SMX Convention Center Aura in Taguig City, along with other top-earning cities and municipalities in the country.

“Despite being the smallest municipality in the province of Ilocos Norte in terms of land area, this award demonstrates that size does not define capability,” Currimao Mayor Edward Quilala said in a statement on Wednesday.

He said the growth in local revenue is not just statistics but a reflection of the spirit of collaboration, creativity and commitment that drives Currimao’s economic development.

In an interview, Vice Mayor Judith Quilala told the Philippine News Agency that the increase in the municipality’s local revenue collection has been largely attributed to a multi-million-peso solar energy plant in Barangay Paguludan-Salindeg that covers around 24 hectares of forestland.

“The payment of real property tax from the solar project is a big factor to the increase, which also includes the establishment of cement warehouses in the municipality,” she said.

The Quilalas enjoined residents, entrepreneurs, stakeholders and the local finance committee to build on the momentum of the award for a more progressive Currimao. (PNA)
