LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — The provincial government of Ilocos Norte has suspended classes at all levels in both public and private schools on November 10–11, 2025, and government work on November 10, as Typhoon Uwan approaches.
Governor Cecilia Araneta Marcos announced the suspension on Friday, saying the move aims to ensure the safety and well-being of learners and workers in the province.
“Let us work together to safeguard lives, livelihoods, and communities,” the governor said, emphasizing the importance of preparedness ahead of the typhoon.
Weather forecast
According to the latest bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Typhoon Uwan may intensify into a super typhoon and is expected to make landfall over the southern portion of Isabela or the northern portion of Aurora by Sunday evening or Monday morning.
Even areas far from the landfall point may experience heavy rainfall, strong winds, and storm surges.
As of 11 a.m. on Nov. 8, Ilocos Norte is under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, indicating that winds of 30–60 kilometers per hour may be expected within 36 hours.
The province is forecasted to receive up to 200 millimeters of rain from Saturday noon until Monday noon.
Safety measures and precautions
Governor Marcos urged local government units to conduct preemptive evacuations for communities in landslide- and flood-prone areas.
She also called on residents to follow evacuation orders promptly and to secure homes, livestock, and other valuables ahead of the storm.
Essential services, including health care and disaster response offices, will remain operational.
Meanwhile, private companies may decide on work suspensions at their discretion, according to the advisory.
“This is to ensure the safety and well-being of learners and workers in the province,” Marcos added on her Facebook page.
Residents are advised to stay updated with official announcements from PAGASA and local authorities and to take necessary precautions to protect lives and property. (AMB/CGCC, PIA Ilocos Norte)
